I reexamine the contemporary era through a conceptual-historical framework that traces a lineage back to the history of non-figurative art—which sought to unify the unconscious, as conceived in 20th-century art and psychoanalysis, with the representations generated by the body. In particular, I identify critical potential in the juxtaposition of all-over and figurative compositions evident in the late works of Jackson Pollock, an artist active in the United States following the Abstract Expressionist movement. I am exploring a mode of painting that constructs the picture plane by repeatedly generating redundancy and its deviations, to construct.
Furthermore, by critically re-examining the aforementioned history of Western art and the body of work that emerged in postwar America following Abstract Expressionism, I create performance works that objectify the generation of performative representations surrounding painting and the body. Through the juxtaposition of colors as a mechanism for generating difference on the picture plane and the technique of collaging found objects onto the canvas, I incorporate the surrounding environment into the painting. My body mutually permeates the pictorial space formed by the material itself and the paint, making the temporal layers created by the painting medium and the geopolitical distances of the imagination central themes. I continue to create works as a form of resistance against the violence that erases the differences occurring in distant places and in the immediate surroundings.
